National
History
Early Beginnings Those present at the cafe felt that a fraternity,
founded on Christian ideals and fellowship, would be more reputable than a
Christian Club, so E. Harlan Fischer appointed a committee to draw up a
Constitution. This Constitution was submitted and accepted at the first
official meeting of the Fraternity on February 15, 1927, and 12 men signed as
charter members. The obvious name for the Fraternity to these men was
Alpha Omega, though it was discovered that such a fraternity already existed.
Bailey Oswald suggested the insertion of Gamma, the third letter of the Greek
alphabet, representing Christ, who is the center of the Alpha Gamma Omega
fraternity. In a 1944 letter to the Alpha Chapter (UCLA), founder
E. Harlan Fischer wrote, “the primary purpose of AGO was to provide Christian
fellowship for born again men thrown into an atmosphere of Godlessness and to
give forth a testimony to others of the saving and keeping power of the Lord
Jesus Christ.” To that end, they quickly realized that the Fraternity
members must be Christians, born again in Christ, knowing they are “redeemed
by the blood of the Lamb.” So today, nearly 70 years later, the Fraternity is
still committed to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. May we never be
comprimised.
Founding Beta Robert Pomeroy, as an alumnus of both chapters, was our
first national president. However, there was mass confusion as to National’s
role in the fraternity. Organizing National
& Expansion In 1963, Bill Hoffman, Jr. was elected as our 18th
National President. In order to provide a continuity & stability, he became
the first president to serve more than one consecutive term. Through a united
effort involving Earl Terry, Price Trautwein, Bill, and others, the Delta
Chapter was chartered on August 15, 1964, and Epsilon on December 25, 1965. Hard Times for AGO As our 19th National President, Ken Karlstad worked to
turn the situation around, and the Alpha & Beta Chapters rebounded. When
Bill Hoffman, Jr. returned as our 20th National President, he continued the
work started under Ken, and both Gamma and Epsilon chapters were refounded
and chartered in 1978. (Unfortunately, Gamma became the first chapter to go
inactive twice when it again closed in 1994.) A Blessing from the

History of Late Night BBQ
Alpha Gamma Omega's weekly event on the row handing out waters to late night partiers and cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers at our house from midnight until we run out of food. An idea brought to UCLA by Chaplain David Askander and borrowed from our chapters at UC Santa Barbara and USC, the heart behind it is to serve our Greek friends in the same way that Jesus would and we draw a contrast with people who preach a turn or burn doctrine.
History of AGO Fashion Show
AGO Fashion Show is Alpha Gamma Omega's annual philanthropy benefitting Invisible
