AGO at UCLA
AGO is the National Christ-Centered Fraternity, founded on the campus of UCLA in 1927. To some people, the phrase "Christ-centered" and "Fraternity" form a contradiction when found together. Yet, for the men associated with Alpha Gamma Omega, only these two phrases can truthfully describe the nature of the fraternity. Our brotherhood derives its vitality from knowing that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior of every AGO man. Alpha Gamma Omega is truly a unique place where young men can come and experience deep fellowship. A place where one can be challenged and built up by each other.P> Accountability can be found in a big brother and the rest of the guys are also there to talk and listen. Weekly meetings and devotions are provided at the chapter house. Daily time in the Word are encouraged for all members. AGO also maintains a Christian Resource library in our prayer chapel. The house also arranges service projects with local churches and relief organizations. We are a Christ-Centered fraternity, and it is through faith-growing events that we strengthen the ties of brotherhood and grow closer in our relationship with Christ. AGO is very active in UCLA sponsored events as well as holding functions of our own. We participate in Homecoming, Spring Sing, Mardi Gras (when there used to be one) and UCLA organized intramural sports. AGO sponsored events include our Thanksgiving banquet, concerts on our outdoor stage, and the all AGO Football tournament in San Luis Obispo. Fall and winter retreats to the mountains or the beach are planned and offer a chance to get away from the hectic life at UCLA. Other events such as tailgate parties, and road trips help liven up the school year.Service to the UCLA campus, local community, and Los Angeles area is also a priority at AGO. Some of the things we've done includes serving various philanthropic organizations including the Hollygrove Orphanage, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), and Habitat for Humanity. We also serve the local community with our annual free car wash, coffee ministry, and various other activities. AGO also takes physical well-being seriously. With UCLA sporting events and our intramural sports teams in basketball, football, and softball, there are plenty of ways to get involved athletically. Our half-court in back of the house promotes good clean fun (most of the time) and there's always ping-pong and foosball for those free moments.

Fraternity Purposes
Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior, we, as Christian young men of Alpha Gamma Omega Fraternity purpose that it shall be the aim of this Fraternity:
Fraternity Verse
"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
The Meaning Behind the Letters
A - Alpha The first letter of the Greek alphabet (and the equivalent of our modern letter "A"), alpha represents the beginning and the foundation of things. To us, Alpha signifies God as the creator and master planner, eternally existent for all time, and the One who is always in control. Γ - Gamma As the third letter of the Greek alphabet, Gamma symbolizes the letter "C" of the modern Roman alphabet - C for Christ. So then, Jesus is the center of our Fraternity, as well as the center of all history from begining to end. It was God's intervention into our world, when he came as a man and lived with us, that makes it possible for us to call on the name of our Father in heaven, and see God's plan of redemption working in all history, globally and in each of our own personal lives. Ω - Omega Omega is the ultimate letter, and has stood for the completion of things and the end of time since ancient days. In it, our hope of a "Fraternity for Eternity" is seen, for we know that our life in Christ is eternal, and our fellowship will never die. And we look to Christ, when he says: "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to
everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." |
